The New Day

Excerpt from John 1.35-50

A new day dawned. I could tell it was going to be a bright day - full of glorious new horizons - glistening with tremendous possibility. Something was in the air, and I could feel it. The atmosphere felt light, the wind soothing, and even the flowers were singing.

The next day John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked. (John 1.35)

There He stood; I knew deep inside; there is something about this man. My teacher, who stands next to me says: 'Behold the Lamb of God'. He had told me there was 'One coming after us'. A Greater one - in whom he wasn't even worthy to loosen His sandals, one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. A lamb who will take away the sin of the world.

Behold The Son of God.

Is this Him? Can it be real?

There stands One among you whom you do not know. (John 1.26)

I've been crying for years in the wilderness of my soul 'Prepare ye the way'. I heard the offensive 'Ye brood of vipers' message—convicted by it. My teacher had given me the grounding I needed—preparation for this new day. The law's harsh demands have left me bitter and dry but it wrought a sincere repentance in my soul. My teacher is the symbolic climax of the old regime. This wilderness experience, all my struggles, all my pains and failures of never feeling pleasing to God, have led me here—right to the very edge. But this morning feels different; I see beaming rays of new dawn now. The Bright Morning Star appears. Behold!

Weeping may tarry for the night, But joy cometh in the morning. (Psalm 30.5)

Luring me, I hear him speak. His voice is sweet and lovely. I must follow him. I know I must! It's way outside my comfort zone! I feel like Dorthy in the Wizard of Oz - called into an unknown world of adventure, but I'm so excited about the prospect. I must go. I must leave my former teacher, who represents the old order. He can't come here, and he can't follow this man. This bright horizon overshadows him. He's soon to be cut off, put in prison, beheaded, with his head on a plate! Whatever loyalty I have to Him, I must renounce. I'm so hungry to hear this 'Grace and Truth' message. So thirsty for this Holy Spirit baptism. It's time for the new order, the real way, truth and life. Even the Prophets of old spoke about this day and here's my chance to see it. I go!

Until this day, the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. (2 Corinthians 3.14)

Then I saw His face. Now I'm a believer! He sees me following Him and turns to me. He says: 'What do you seek'? It’s an intriguing question! What do I seek? I think I get it. I say: 'Rabbi'. In other words, You're my new teacher. I'm done with being governed by the law and being a disciple of Moses and John the Baptist. They had their time, their purpose, they were a primary schoolmaster who led me here, but I want a higher education - unto perfection. I want to learn from the Master of masters. The one who was before me—the true light. I'm in way too deep and there ain't no going back! I must forsake all to be his disciple. I'm going for it—no matter what the cost!

'Where are you staying', I ask? He says to me 'Come and See'. 😮

What a response! Not, bow down, try be better, say more penance! But rather, 'Come and See' — Shivers run up my spine! — It's wonderful, all the ramifications of that invitation! His presence is drastically different from John the Baptists, it takes my breath away. I'm surely going to experience new things! It's going to be a wild adventure, and I feel it. So I 'Came and Saw' where he was staying. There I remained with Him. (John 1.39)

Have you come yet?

Have you came and saw where He lives?

Don't you know He's the true light of all men coming into the world? (John 1.9) Do you really think this world is all there is? 🤦🏼‍♂️

You came to earth, big deal! Come to heaven and see the banquet of new wine! Now that's a party! 🕺🏻

Have you seen the truer - brighter light, or are you content with the dim light of the old—The letter of the law and religious service? Dry stuff mate!

Would you like to leave your earthly abode, and ascend unto your Father? 🤩 Now your talking man! C'Mon now!

It's your time to 'Come'.

Later that day, overwhelmed with excitement, I seek my brother out, I'm burning to tell him the good news: 'I have found the Christ'. I bring him to Jesus. He looks at him. The engagement of Jesus's eyes upon him is mesmerizing. He calls my brother by name: 'You are Simon, the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas'. (John 1.40-42) My bro's old identity melts into oblivion in His presence, and he's given a new name in the book of life. Isn't the love of Jesus simply wonderful! 😇

The next day Jesus wanted to go to another place. We find Philip. The Master calls: Follow me. Boom, another conversion! Another soul saved - The Gospel is spreading. Let's try this glory wand on Nathanael. 'We have found the man whom Moses wrote about in his teachings and whom the prophets wrote about.' His response, like many, is typical — Cynical! 'Can anything good from Nazareth? Can anything possibly get birthed from such a non-place? Can anything good come to me now? Look at the state a me! I'm full of sin and misery!

Philip steps in. He laughs at such nonsense. Sin is like putting ice-cream into a raging fire—it melts into nothingness in his presence! Nathanael like most cynics has a lot to learn—they don't have a clue about the ways of God! So, Philip being wiser now since his conversion — He doesn't bark the heavy law and condemnation preaching! We've left that behind. Ye are become dead to the law by the body of Christ (Romans 7.4) The only thing that can be said: The very same words the Master said to me this morning and Philip repeats it: 'Come and See.'

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit. Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?"

Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

Wow! The same feeling I had when I came towards Him! Jesus sees no sin in you. He knows you. He saw you when you were under the fig tree of the old. Later, The fig tree gets cursed by Jesus because it doesn't bear fruit. That influence of the past, the law, are over! That dispensation has been cut off like the head of our former teacher - John the Baptist! We're in the new day now. You get that? The NEW DAY! The Bright Morning Star has appeared. 🤩

Nathanael answered, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God!

Jesus answered:

Do you believe because I said I saw you under the fig tree?

You shall see greater things than this!! 🤯
